What was the compromise?
Nobody wanted for these events to happen. That's why Ireland and the United States partnered to legally end them. On April 10th, 1998 the leaders of the U.S., Ireland, and England all signed the Good Friday Agreement. The agreement, intended to be effective on December 2nd the following year, was going to amend some of the ethno-religious and paramilitary difficulties Northern Ireland was facing. The finished agreement claimed to also help the citizens caught in the crossfire of the troubles. Even days after the agreement took effect, there were already difficulties with disarming paramilitary groups and decided how to deal with protesting marchers. For years after this agreement's ratification, complications would still sprout up, leaving Northern Ireland in a steady state of turmoil.
